Our Programs

floChicago currently operates two signature programs: floFellows, a year-long leadership development program and floAlumni, the continuing engagement and education opportunity for all former floFellows.

floChicago annually selects a diverse cohort of about 30 students representing a wide range of high schools and neighborhoods to participate in the floFellows Program. This year-long leadership development experience is designed to purposely create bonds across students of different racial, class, gender identity, and socio-economic backgrounds.

To learn more about the process to apply and our selection process, view our application page.

What are you up to? I am a student at Morehouse College studying chemistry. I recently had the opportunity to share my lab's research method for studying dorsal heart pumping in insects at conference in Texas.

Where are you headed? After attaining a B.S. in Chemistry from Morehouse, I plan to study biomedical engineering at the graduate level.

What are your memories of floChicago? It was amazing how quickly my cohort meshed together. That allowed us to have candid conversations about our diverse experiences living in Chicago. My favorite memory is staying up late preparing for the final presentation, presenting, and making friends in the process.

What is your favorite floChicago memory? From meeting with the Chicago Housing Authority to visiting the Mayor's Office, the program provided me with several meaningful learning experiences. I loved participating in discussions and broadening my perspective on various topics, such as crime, violence and race relations in the city. However, my favorite part of floChicago was the people...friends from all of the city that I never would have had the chance to meet if it wasn't for floChicago.

What are you currently up to and where are you headed? I am currently majoring in psychology and minoring in social welfare at Florida State University. After college, I plan on attending law school. I know I want to advocate on behalf of underrepresented individuals. I am considering working as a human rights attorney specifically helping individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities receive legal protection.

How has floChicago impacted you? If it weren’t for floChicago, I never would’ve made so many amazing friends from backgrounds different than my own….I widened my perspective on so many things and became inspired to give back to my community.
